OLD The Bridge - Year 7

At The Hinckley School, we recognise that the needs of our younger students are very different to our older students and that the first year at secondary school is a critical year in any young person’s educational journey. To strengthen our commitment to exceptional Year 7 progress and experiences, we are delighted to announce the opening of The Bridge at The Hinckley School from September 2021, to deliver an outstanding Year 7 provision.

The Bridge at The Hinckley School is based on a concept pioneered over eight years ago, with Ofsted and leading educationalists praising the tailored Year 7 provision. Whereas Year 7 students tend to experience a dip in academic performance on transfer to secondary school, students at schools with The Bridge have seen consistently accelerated academic progress year after year along with unrivalled pastoral care and transition experience. Education specialists travel from all over the world to see The Bridge in action and understand its formula for achievement.

The Bridge offers a supportive transition programme which guarantees all primary children make a happy and successful start at The Hinckley School. The whole focus is to ensure that our new students feel at home from day one, engage in positive experiences, make new friends and get the very best start at secondary school. The Bridge offers exceptional learning and enrichment opportunities and has an outstanding ethos and expectations as we show PRIDE in everything that we do.

The Bridge will provide our new Year 7 students with their own ‘mini school’, a welcoming place where they will settle quickly and where our specialist Bridge Team can focus entirely on them, delivering unrivalled pastoral care and accelerated academic progress. The Bridge area has undergone significant development and investment and features classrooms, social spaces, IT facilities and an outdoor play area only for Year 7 students.

At The Hinckley School, students at The Bridge are able to experience a personalised curriculum which caters to their needs, whether they need further support with their learning or they need to be stretched and challenged. We offer a wide range of subjects (alongside our core English and Maths) for students to study such as: Modern Foreign Languages, ICT, P.E, Drama, Music, Design and Technology, Science and our new and exciting curriculum of Classics, where students will explore Latin. Students at The Bridge enjoy a project curriculum to enable students to access a range of subjects in an exciting way and to develop strong relationships with their teachers.

The Bridge Team consists of highly experienced practitioners including staff with specialist primary expertise who understand the unique needs of our youngest students. Students also benefit from reduced teacher numbers to help build confidence and professional relationships to aid progress.

Alongside an outstanding academic provision and wrap around care and support, The Bridge offers a diverse programme of extracurricular activities to enrich students secondary experience. With their own clubs, societies and trips, students at The Bridge will enjoy a vast array of additional opportunities designed to enrich and inspire.
